One thing that will never cease to amaze me is the speed at which time goes by, and as I get older, it just seems to go by faster and faster.

When I was young I remember feeling that I had all the time in the world. Nothing was an impossibility. Everything would just happen later. As I got older I realised that things didn’t just happen. People made things happen. Then I started noticing that I had to start making things happen, because no one else was going to do it for me.

I guess the more I realised that, the more I felt the sands of time flowing through my fingers, and the more I felt the need to stop the flowing sand.

As time goes on, I now realise that not only is the time for enjoying “things” escaping, but so is the time for enjoying the people I love too. The people I love (my family and friends) are much more important to me than anything else on this Earth and beyond. Their health and happiness is what I most desire.

To my loved ones, thank you for being a part of my life. I adore you with all of my being, and I pray that we will have many countless more years of health and happiness together.

Four years ago today I met someone that would change my life. Brought together by a love of cars, Initial D, and Tim Tams we would end up with a passion for one another.

Back then, times were a little different. We spent many hours in my car driving around. Heading up the old road to Gosford, or down Bells Line. Deliberately heading towards the twisty back roads of NSW.

The above photo was taken in 2005. Strangely, not one single thing in the photograph is the same today. All have improved, or have been improved.

Happy anniversary Amanda. I love you very much.

How successful someone is, is generally determined by how many times they actually take the wheel and drive.

I know that more often than not I’ve either put the car into cruise control, or just let someone else drive altogether. It’s just easier that way. Little risk. Little responsibility. But it’s wrong, and it’s not the way I live my life anymore.

I lost a year in my pre-teen years. I’m not quite sure what happened. But I withdrew into myself. I didn’t speak a word to anyone other than my parents. Not at school, not anywhere for the entire year. I felt in control, but in reality what I was doing was driving in the wrong direction and setting the cruise control to see where it took me.

It didn’t take me anywhere.

So how do you start taking the wheel? Start with the small things. Get up early, start the day with the wheel firmly in hand and the accelerator flattened.

What I’ve found is that successful people in my life have grabbed hold of that wheel, and driven towards uncertainty. Do they fail along the way and get lost? Ofcourse. But it’s what they do with those failures that see’s them through to the next unfamiliar sky.
