Throughout my life I’ve found that I’ve always made things the way I wanted them to be. Even without realising.
From a young age I would …
good enough…
When is good-enough ever enough, and is ignorance ever an acceptable status?
When we compromise we’re saying that something is not quite what we expected or wanted. Putting it in those words suggests whatever it is, is something awful and unworthy. But does it necessarily have to be?
There have been lots of times where I’ve come to the conclusion that something is “good enough”. But there have been very few times where something that I’ve decided is “good enough” has actually been enough.
Why were cars invented? As a means for transporting people and goods further than before.
So from this, a car that runs and gets you from A-to-B is “good enough”. But then, our nature has added another layer onto this. Driving can actually be an enjoyable experience.
Those of you that have actually experienced enjoyment from driving will know exactly what I’m talking about. A car that merely “runs” is no longer enough. As with anything, the enjoyment grows exponentially if the experience is bettered.
So in this scenario, “good enough” is when you’re ignorant to the possibility of “better” or have never experienced “better”. What we’re basically saying here is that if you’re ignorant to that then good-enough is more-than-enough.
It seems that the human condition has us seeing things that are good-enough as enough when we don’t know any better. So should we aim to remain ignorant?
