5 years

Today I received a gift to signify my time as a permanent employee at the large corporation that I work at.  (Yes I realise you can see the company logo in the photograph, but I’m not going to mention it).

A few months ago I received an email asking that I choose my gift from a list of items available.  They consisted of African plates, some pewter items, pens, and two different types of watch.  Each item had the option of having the company logo, or not.

Seeing as the gift was to signify my time there, I felt a watch with logo would be appropriate.  There were two choices, metal and gold banded, or a black leather banded Timex.  I chose the Timex with the company logo attached to the band.

My expectations were low, so when I received the watch I was pleasantly surprised.  It’s not that bad looking.

At one point, well before I joined the company, five years was rewarded in a much more generous way.  But this will do me just fine.

I’m happy with my watch, and will remember back to this time whenever I see it.  I’ll actually remember the time leading up to receiving the watch more than anything.  My mate at work tricking me into believing the watches had arrived, and the paper watch that he had made for me.

I guess, at the end of the day, this small token will do as it’s supposed to and remind me of these times.

Be happy that you get a choice or “reward”… at our company, you get “building blocks” and a rather small monetary amount.

The building blocks would probably be the most expensive lego pieces in the world!

    I am happy with it :) .

I’m intrigued by your “building blocks” though. Are they actual blocKs?

Dude, 5 years is a long time and I have not even started working back to 5 years ago. But I think I was more keen on what I did back to 5 years ago than now. Anyway, congrats on your 5 years of sincere service to this tech giant.
