running on empty

filling up

Often there will be times when we’re called upon to break from our routine, and do things that we’re not prepared for.  Generally we’ve got enough in reserve to be able to more than cater for these times.  But if these routine breaking events come hard and fast, one after the other, we soon begin to run on empty.

I’ve found that when I’m running on empty everything and anything I do suffers.  My fuse becomes short, and lord help those that are around when I explode.

It’s because of this that we should value the ability to take me-time very highly.  It is selfish, but without it we’re unable to refuel and be selfless when needed.
