the little things

Guava Nectar

I find that I  often forget about the little things.    The little things to look forward to, the little things that can make you smile if you actually take the time to think about them.

It’s good to be able to think deeply.  When doing so you’re more aware of your surroundings, more aware of the things going on around you, and less likely to miss things that are important and useful.  But there should always be time to step back and recognise the little things.

Last night, while not feeling the best, I remembered that my girlfriend and I had bought some juice,  Guava Nectar.  It’s a thick guava juice that isn’t too sweet, has no hint of being sour, and has a strong guava flavour.

I poured the glass and took a sip.  But then I stopped and savored the sip of nectar that I held in my mouth.  Looking back down at the glass as I swallowed I realised that I should be happy that I can have this.  Cold, clean, and fresh.  That even though it’s just a glass of juice,  I was lucky to have found it at the shops, lucky to have decided to give it a try, and lucky that it actually excited my tastes buds.

Such a small thing made me smile, and the fact that I started to think deeply about it made me chuckle quietly.

There are so many little things that happen in our daily lives that go unnoticed.  We should notice them always, and especially when everything seems to be going pear shaped.

I guess the road to happy comes from all the little things around us that can make us smile.
