It seems that everywhere I look everything old is cool again.
Whether it be cars, or consoles. It’s cool to have old things that are in as-new condition.
Previously I didn’t see the value in, or have any desire to own old things. But now, nostalgia has the better of me. I now desire cars that I previously wouldn’t have looked at. An old Datsun 240z, for example. A few years ago if someone had asked me to describe one, I would’ve described it as a car that looked like a vacuum cleaner from the 80′s.
Now though, if I was given the opportunity to restore and modify one I would jump at it. They have huge potential.
Old VW Golf’s too. The GTi’s from the early 80′s. They were nothing to me. But now, with the resurgence of people modifying them and setting them up with the perfect stance, I desire them.
Movies too! Just the other day a friend of mine and I were looking up such “awesomely cool” titles like- Encino Man, and Dream Machine. Those were the best piece of crap movies that I can ever remember watching over and over.
I wonder why there’s the obsession with these things now? It can’t be that they’re rare, because they aren’t really. Why are they desirable? I can’t quite put my finger on it.
…and seeing as these objects that once weren’t desireable have become desirable. What out of today’s things will share the same fate? Will an R33 Skyline ever become something that someone will say, “wow, I wish I had one of those!”
