loss and inspiration

Last year, one of my closest friends, that I’ve known for all my life bought a beautiful new car.  A car that he was proud of, and one that he began to sink money into immediately.

It was a Mk5 Gti that didn’t stay stock for very long.

On the first night that he had the car he came over, and gave me a drive.  My first ever drive of a DSG.  The gearbox surprised me with it’s smoothness and quickness.  But what really surprised me was that the car didn’t feel like a hatch when driving.  I honestly felt like I was driving a coupe of sorts.  Very sporty.

The interior was so plush.  By far the nicest interior I’ve ever experienced.  That said, I’m use to Japanese interiors and am still partial to stripped-out-race-like interiors.  So I’m not too experienced in this respect.

Soon after, this car would be modified with ECU reflash, turbo back exhaust, full original Oettinger bodykit and wheels.  It was a thing of beauty.  So much so I started considering a Golf as a next car option.

When I drove the car with the computer and exhaust mods it was a significantly different beast. Much more torque than before.  It drove with a civilized urgency while the new exhaust was barking up a storm.  I also noticed that I could now hear the turbo spooling.

Unfortunately it’s beauty was short lived, and I was not able to capture it’s new look on camera before a bus rear ended it one afternoon.  After a few short months the car was no more.

You would think that such a situation would lead the owner into depression, and have him give up on everything.  But not this owner.  Things were aimed downwards for a while, but he turned this around in a relatively short amount of time.  Now with new job, and new home the future is looking bright for an even better VW to be in his hands.

My camera will be waiting.
